SARAJEVO,Bosnia – A member of the Bosnian Presidency Zeljko Komsic requested the Bosnian Chief Prosecutor Marinko Jurcevic, the FBiH Entity Chief Prosecutor Zdravko Knezevic and the Srednjabosna Canton Chief Prosecutor Senad Dautovic to provide a report on how far have investigative activities in the “Vrbanja” case come.
According to information available at this time more than 40 Bosniaks were executed in the Bugojno’s Vrbanja settlement by the Croatian aggressor in July 1993. Those responsible for these crimes have despite overwhelming evidence still not been prosecuted.
Komsic forwarded to the Principle Deputy High Representative Raffi Gregorian, the Bosnian Security Minister Tarik Sadovic and the Bosnian Prime Minister Nikola Spiric last week a proposal for the reorganisation of the State Investigation and Protection Agency’s (SIPA) Centre for Researching War Crimes.
According to this proposal the Centre for Researching War Crimes would have to be staffed up and improved in organisational terms as soon as possible in order to ensure that war criminals are quickly and efficiently punished.
Twelve years after the end of the Serbian,Montenegrin and Croatian aggressions against Bosnia is too long a period during which war criminals living in Bosnia have not been efficiently and timely discovered and punished. Komsic thinks that if there is a wish to quickly resolve the issue of punishing war criminals, many of whom are still at large, the Centre for Researching War Crimes needs to be strengthened and supported by highly qualified and professional staff.
